Color cosmetics have changed their form completely over the last decade. In an arena that was once dominated by liquid foundations, solid lipsticks, and powder for everything else, we now have every possible product form. The use of hundreds of esters with myriad feels from dry & silky to heavy & unctuous has allowed formulators to create heretofore unknown product forms.
In the area of foundations, we still have the traditional liquid forms. However, we now have powder, or mineral based, foundations; semi-solid cream foundations; and lighter than air tinted moisturizers that stand in as foundations. Furthermore, foundations are not just for covering the skin anymore – they are now expected to have skin enhancing benefits such as sunscreen or anti-aging.
For eye shadows, the traditional powder eye shadow has been supplanted by glorious gel and liquid forms that allow for blending and smoothing with ease. On the lips, solid lipsticks are still going strong, but with much different feels – matte, velvet, and glossy. Lip glosses, in either wand or pot form, provide shine to lips with little or no stickiness.
All of these product attributes can be attained through the use of the hundreds of different emollients esters and emulsifiers that are now available. Whether it is Crodamol STS with a high refractive index and low skin spreading (great for lip glosses!!); Cromollient DP3-A with high pigment wetting qualities and great rub-in (perfect in foundations); or Crodafos CES with emulsification properties and the ability to enhance actives deposition (hello, anti-aging undereye concealer!), Croda has all of your color needs covered.
