Significant advances in Emollient Therapy

Croda’s ultra-pure medical grade lanolin, Medilan™, sets a new gold standard for emollients. In a new clinical study on cracked, xerotic skin, Medilan™ was clinically proven to be superior to petrolatum, giving dramatic improvements in clinical signs and symptoms. Medilan™ successfully reduced dryness, scaling, cracks, abrasions, pain and itch to zero during the study period; the petrolatum treatment gave only moderate improvements.

Emollients soothe, smooth and hydrate the skin. They are of great therapeutic value in the treatment and prevention of a wide range of dermatological disorders. Whilst petrolatum has traditionally been regarded as the gold standard emollient for moisturising the skin, recent studies now indicate that certain purified lanolins possess many attributes that may make them superior – prolonging skin moisturisation and accelerating barrier repair.
