Five years of the Croda Foundation: Turning purpose into lasting impact

In 2018, Croda colleagues put forward a simple but ambitious idea: to create a Foundation that would translate Croda’s commitment to people, communities and the planet into long-term, measurable impact. By harnessing our greatest strength, our people, Croda could extend its positive contribution far beyond its operations.

This idea became a reality in December 2020 with the launch of the Croda Foundation. Powered by our people and guided by the belief that science, innovation and compassion together can improve lives, the Foundation brings Croda’s Purpose to life in communities around the world. In 2021, Executive Director Rommel Moseley was appointed to lead the Foundation and embed this vision into action.

Built by Croda people, focused on impact

From the beginning, the Croda Foundation was designed to be more than a source of funding. Every project starts with a nomination from a Croda employee and is selected for its potential to deliver sustainable, long-term outcomes. Alongside financial support, projects benefit from the expertise, insight and commitment of Croda people.

In its first five years, the Foundation has received more than 310 nominations, resulting in 53 projects delivered across 23 countries and positively impacting over 23 million lives. For every £1 invested, £8.33 of social value has been generated, with an average investment of approximately £30.55 contributing to a measurable improvement in one person’s life.

These outcomes translate into tangible change:

  • In Kenya, mobile clinics are providing essential healthcare services to nearly 69,000 people in rural communities
  • In the UK, 600 young people furthest from the labour market are gaining skills and work experience to support sustainable employment
  • In Chile, smallholder farmers are moving away from harmful pesticides, improving health outcomes and protecting their land
  • In the United States, members of the Navajo Nation now have access to clean, running water, addressing long-standing infrastructure gaps
  • In Brazil, more than 7,400 Indigenous people have improved food security and economic opportunity, alongside the restoration of 3,300 hectares of Amazon rainforest
  • In India, women participating in skills programmes are increasing their incomes by up to 30%
“If we can achieve this impact in just five years, imagine what we can achieve in the next five.”

Expertise that goes beyond funding

The Croda Foundation is distinguished by the active involvement of Croda people. Colleagues from across the business, spanning science, manufacturing, engineering and corporate functions, contribute their time and expertise to strengthen partner organisations and accelerate impact.

Support for the Foundation is embedded across the organisation, from the Executive Committee to sites and offices worldwide, reinforcing a shared commitment to delivering meaningful and lasting change.

“Visiting the Jaipur project with the Croda Foundation was an incredibly humbling experience. Seeing how women are coming together through self-help groups to build sustainable livelihoods and lift their communities out of hardship was deeply inspiring. The project is not only creating economic opportunities but also helping to ensure that children stay in school and away from child labour. It’s a powerful example of how empowering women drives lasting social change.”

The next chapter

As the Foundation marks its fifth anniversary, it is preparing for its next phase. The new strategy, will focus on deepening impact, strengthening partnerships and further integrating Croda’s values into every programme supported.

A reflection of who we are

The Croda Foundation demonstrates how Croda brings its values to life. Established by Croda people and powered by their expertise, it reflects what it means to be Responsible, Innovative and Together.

As the Foundation celebrates five years, the focus remains firmly on the future: scaling impact, strengthening partnerships and continuing to turn ideas into action.

“It makes me proud to see the Foundation evolve from Croda’s vision of doing good through our Purpose into a reality that has permanently improved over 22 million lives. A heartfelt thank you to Rommel and the team for everything they have done for Croda and the Foundation over the past five years.”
