Awards and certifications

In 2023 Croda was voted ‘Britain’s Most Admired Chemicals Company’ for the seventh year running. These awards are based on a peer review of corporate reputation that includes interviews with board directors, analysts and City commentators. This year, Croda was recognised for its long-term value potential, receiving a score that placed the company second out of all UK businesses and tenth overall. 

In 2021, we were awarded Business of the Year at the World Sustainability Awards. In 2023 we were shortlisted for the Sustainability Team Award.  Awards like this are possible thanks to the collective effort of all our employees who are working towards us achieving our ambition to become the most sustainable supplier of innovative ingredients.

We are delighted to be one of seven companies recognised by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) in their 2021 Sustainability Leadership Awards. These awards have highlighted the amazing work by our colleagues at Avanti Polar Lipids, recognising the ‘societal contribution’ their smart science has made to the development and deployment of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

We meet customs control procedures and our role in the international supply chain is secure.

Our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, along with additional KPIs for bio-based raw materials, avoided carbon and gender diversity, have been assured (limited assurance) under ISAE (UK) 3000 and ISAE 3410 by KPMG, our independent assurance provider and reflects the position for the year ending 31st December 2023.  The limited assurance opinion and reporting criteria are available here.

We have re-stated our emissions and energy consumption data for 2018 - 2022. Full details are set out in our Reporting Data Pack www.croda.com/sustainability. These updates reflect our commitment to good quality data and have allowed us the opportunity to improve the completeness of our reporting for arbitration of Renewable Energy Certificates at our site in Atlas Point, along with correcting for small adjustments in raw materials usage at our Singapore facility. We received reasonable verification for this update to 2018 - 2022 Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions from Accenture. The verification statement is available here.

Many of our products are certified COSMOS ORGANIC or COSMOS NATURAL, or conform to these standards. This means we:

• Promote the use of products from organic agriculture and respect biodiversity
• Use natural resources responsibly and respect the environment
• Use processing and manufacturing practices that are clean and respectful to human health and the environment

All Croda manufacturing sites that handle cosmetic products operate to the EFfCI Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standard, an international excipients certification that:

• Indicates the quality and safety of our cosmetic ingredients
• Provides customers with a guarantee of quality and performance consistency to support their product claims
• Ensures patient safety through quality

Many of Croda’s excipient manufacturing sites have completed the audit requirements of EXCiPACT and have been successfully certified. Croda was the first multi-site excipient supplier to achieve global EXCiPACT accreditation across its production facilities. This certifies that Croda’s excipient sites manufacture according to the EXCiPACT Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Certification Standard.

We offer a wide range of halal certified speciality products manufactured at Croda sites around the globe.

We are committed to ensuring the raw materials in our products are sampled and purchased in accordance with national and international Access and Benefit Sharing legislation and best practices. This is particularly relevant to innovations in biotechnology, plant extracts and derivatives.

The manufacturing sites, distribution sites, and offices have achieved numerous international certifications relating to quality and standards. These include ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001, ISO22000, ISO50001, ISO16128, OHSAS18001, FEMAS, FSSC22000, Heubach-Cop, and EMAS. Croda also aligns with ISO14067, ISO14040 and ISO14044. In addition, Croda sites (where relevant) are registered with Regulatory Bodies such as the UK MHRA and Danish Medicines Authority. 

The European Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) is designed to ensure sufficient information is available on chemicals made and used in the EU. We are committed to helping industry achieve the ultimate goal of REACH: it is complementary to our internal approaches to ensure an adequate understanding of chemical hazards and innovating through technology to improve chemical safety profiles. 

Responsible Care is a voluntary commitment by the global chemical industry. 

In 2023 88.4% of our global palm derivatives consumption was RSPO physically certified by Mass Balance.

We are committed to the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and have submitted our Advanced Communication of Progress during 2021.

Our bio-based ECO Range is the most extensive portfolio of 100% renewable surfactants on the market. Using an alternate route to ethoxylated (EO) products using bioethanol from biomass sources, this range significantly increases bio-based content and reduces reliance on fossil fuels. Our products are tested and registered with the USDA BioPreferred® Program*.
