Ratings and frameworks

We have identified MSCI and Sustainalytics as key frameworks that help our investors determine the impact of their investments on society and the environment. They also help us to implement and continuously improve our measures and best practices. The ratings measure long-term resilience to financially relevant Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks. In June 2020, for the fifth year running, we were awarded a AAA rating by the MSCI ESG Ratings Agency, and were ranked 12/120 by Sustainalytics. This reinforces our position as a leader among the highest scoring companies in our peer group.

Rating more than 20,000 companies, the EcoVadis assessment methodology looks at environment, ethics, sustainable procurement practices, labour and human rights. This framework is particularly important to our customers and is another resource that supports our continuous improvement. In 2021 we achieved a Platinum medal, confirming our position in the top 1% of all companies under assessment with a score of 75/100. This year, this Platinum rating was joined by EcoVadis also awarding us a ‘Leader’ rating in its new carbon scorecard. In this new scorecard, we achieved the highest carbon management level for our net zero ambition and approved science-based targets.

In 2022 we have again disclosed to CDP Climate, Forests and Water Security, providing transparency to our stakeholders, including key customers who requested specific information through the CDP Supply Chain module. Our scores will be published later in 2022.

In 2021 we were ranked the Most Sustainable International Company by Barron’s, a leading source of financial news for the American Stock Exchange. The Top 100 listing looks at the 1,000 largest publicly held companies by market value across 24 developed country markets, excluding the USA, which has its own Top 100.

Croda is also listed in the FTSE4Good UK 50 Index, designed to measure the performance of companies demonstrating strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices.
