Croda strengthens commitment to help customers decarbonise with updated Science Based Targets by 2030 and approved Net Zero target by 2050

26 September 2025: Croda International Plc (“Croda”), the company that uses smart science to create high-performance ingredients and solutions that improve lives, has today announced updated climate goals that have been externally validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)¹.

With many of Croda’s customers increasingly requesting low-carbon solutions, these updated targets reflect the company’s continued readiness to help meet these needs, translating decarbonisation into business opportunities.

In 2021, Croda was one of the first major chemical companies to have decarbonisation targets validated by SBTi. In the following years, strong progress has been made towards these initial targets, and the work has been supported and recognised by both customers and industry associations. Croda has now expanded the opportunities available to help its customers decarbonise by including impacts on land-related emissions, aligned with the latest understanding of climate science. SBTi has validated that Croda’s more ambitious, science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets conform with the SBTi Net Zero Standard and the SBTi Forest, Land and Agriculture Guidance.

By the end of 2030² Croda aims to:

  • reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 Green House Gas (GHG) emissions by 42% - emissions from its own operations
  • reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions by 25% - value chain emissions upstream and downstream
  • reduce absolute scope 3 FLAG³ GHG emissions by 30.3% - land-related emissions upstream
  • SBTi has also verified our net zero science-based target by 2050.

Croda has integrated these targets into business strategies, not only reducing the environmental impact of its own operations but also helping customers advance their decarbonisation objectives.

Phil Ruxton, Chief Sustainability Officer, commented: “Acting to reduce the impacts of our value chains on planet and society is core to Croda’s Purpose. Since launching our Commitment in 2020 we have met our major public milestones, on the way to delivering decarbonisation targets aligned with climate science. I am particularly excited that we can now connect our approach to decarbonisation with contributing to a Nature Positive world through the new FLAG³ target and commitment to deforestation-risk free supply chains for our customers. These validated targets confirm our desire to play our part in transitioning to a low carbon economy.

“Croda encourages peers, suppliers, partners, and other stakeholders to align with climate science through the adoption of net zero science-based targets aligned with 1.5°C, enabling the rapid and deep emission cuts needed to mitigate the effects of a changing climate.”

² Targets are set from a 2022 baseline. In addition, the company aims to remove deforestation across its primary deforestation-linked commodities, with a target date of December 31, 2025. Direct emissions reductions will be prioritised, and all residual emissions will be neutralised in line with SBTi Criteria before reaching net zero emissions.

³ FLAG GHG emissions refers to Forest, Land, and Agriculture (FLAG) emissions: greenhouse gases released from land-based activities like deforestation, agriculture, and forestry.
