Collective Action of Sustainable Palm Derivatives

Croda International Plc, who use smart science to create, make and sell speciality chemicals that improve lives in societies and industries everywhere, is proud to be a founder member of Action for Sustainable Derivatives (ASD).  This new initiative brings together major beauty, home and personal care and other oleochemical companies and is led by BSR & Transitions to enable sustainable production and sourcing of palm oil and palm kernel oil derivatives.

This collaboration is based on a recognition that, while companies are increasingly accelerating compliance with deforestation-free and responsible sourcing principles, overlapping comparable approaches have led to significant duplication of efforts.

Working together to transform the sector

Bringing together private-sector organizations in the cosmetics, home and personal care, and oleochemicals industries, ASD will facilitate the sharing of information, data, constraints, and solutions, with a view to achieving a wholescale transformation of the complex palm derivatives sector. The initiative will also result in operational solutions to secure responsible supply chains, including supporting sustainable field projects and/or landscape initiatives.

ASD is co-managed and co-facilitated by BSR (Business for Social Responsibility) and Transitions, organisations with extensive experience and expertise in supply chain sustainability and business collaborations.

Tara Norton, Managing Director, BSR, said: "BSR is pleased to work in partnership with Transitions to support a leading group of companies as they take action to increase the transparency of the global palm derivatives supply chain, to collectively monitor risks and activities all along the supply chain, and to identify and advance collective action projects to address social and environmental issues in the field. We believe that Action for Sustainable Derivatives (ASD) can make a tangible difference, and we look forward to its development."

Chris Sayner, Vice President Customer Alliances, Corporate Sustainability, Croda said: “The home and personal care industry has made enormous progress in supporting sustainable palm, extending positive influence beyond its own supply chains. The ASD is a perfect example of businesses coming together to complete the industry transformation to sustainable palm and partnering to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”
