Launch of first report on biotechnology opportunities in the personal care market

27 September 2022: Croda International Plc, the company that uses smart science to create high performance ingredients and solutions that improve lives has today launched its first biotechnology report.

The “Biotechnology: personal care market report” is the first in a series from Croda which aim to help other forward-thinking companies leverage the opportunities offered by biotechnology. The reports will cover the innovation opportunities, barriers to wider adoption and solutions to overcome these barriers.

This first report from Croda focuses on opportunities in the personal care sector, where biotechnology can help meet sustainability goals, and generate new effects to make personal care brands even more appealing and differentiated for consumers.

Biotechnology in Personal Care

Across the personal care market, biotechnology capabilities have continued to develop, but the approach still remains niche and subject to various challenges including performance, cost, production at scale, and sustainability. Where these barriers can be overcome, personal care companies will be able to find smarter ways to meet the growing performance and sustainability requirements of their consumers, through new biotechnology-derived ingredients and biotechnology-derived replacements for those already in use.

Commenting on the new report, Damian Kelly, Vice President, Innovation and Technology Development at Croda said: “We hope that these reports open new conversations across industries on the benefits of biotechnology and the potential it has to solve long-standing problems.

“At Croda, we have already seen how biotechnology can be used to create differentiated products especially in personal care. The wider adoption of biotechnology within the personal care market could lead to new discoveries and unlock future growth.”

Initially focusing on the personal care market, Croda will publish further reports on the application of biotechnology to a range of sectors including agriculture and home care over the remainder of the series.
