Acts of kindness
The Croda Acts of Kindness programme gave employees the opportunity to nominate local causes and charities to support during COVID-19, with each major site given £10,000. We set aside a fund totalling GBP £200,000 and our teams around the world reacted immediately, nominating a diverse group of causes and groups that would benefit from additional help.
In Brazil, the Campinas team wanted to support several groups. This included donating personal hygiene products to a local nursing home as well as providing food boxes for residents in a favela, helping 200 of the most vulnerable families.
The Brazilian team also gifted 100,000 soap bars to the Kayapo, an indigenous tribe in the Capoto-Jarina reservation in the Amazon rainforest. Increased hand washing is an effective way to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, however, access to soap is difficult for these tribes as they do not live in a cash economy and, together with their remoteness and a lack of medical assistance, they are more vulnerable to the pandemic and other health issues.
“These causes were close to the hearts of the team,” says Adriana Nobre, Croda Managing Director for Latin America. “Our people were proud to step forward and help, making a difference to these communities - including the Kayapo who play such an important role in safeguarding the environment.”
