I joined Croda China as a Sales Executive in the Lubricants business but at that time, I did not have much knowledge about lubricants or sales. However, I was impressed by the good working atmosphere at Croda. With my Master’s Degree in Materials Science as my foundation, I grasped every chance to learn about sales, lubricants and most importantly, how to get closer to customers. My job was to help my manager to meet the lubricant business’ targets and focus on promoting the self-emulsifying esters range for metalworking fluid.
Besides being the Sales Executive for Lubricants business my role developed to include Water Treatment part of the Geo Technologies sector. Although I was becoming familiar with Lubricants business, the Automotive Lubricants market was quite new to me as the synthetic base oil market was just developing in China, this was a great opportunity for me to learn and develop my understanding of this market. Our hard work paid off and in 2010, we achieved over 100% sales growth and about 200% sales growth in 2011.
Although my main job responsibility still lies in Lubricants sales, I had to take over the whole Geo Technologies business comprising of Water Treatment, Oil &Gas and Mining due to the transfer of the Sales Manager to another business sector. I continued to enjoy good success in the Lubricants sector as we had successfully penetrated into the Automotive Lubricants market for our esters and friction modifiers, with growth also being seen in Polymer Friction Modifiers for this area. When I left the Geo Technologies sector, sales were five times higher than when I had started three years before.
I was promoted to become a Sale Manager and I now focus entirely on Lubricants. I am leading my team members to develop and understand new business opportunities for Lubricants. Croda has provided me with the opportunity to attend a Management Essentials Training course. I have also learnt how to lead and motivate my team.
