1996
I joined Croda in 1996 and was involved with introducing high standards of safety, health and environment protection to the plant. In 2007, just around the time when Croda acquired Uniqema, I was part of the steering group to integrate Safety Management System OHSAS 18000 and Environment Management System ISO 14000 into currently implemented Quality Management System ISO 9000. The experience gave me more understanding on the importance of the implementation of Worldwide Corporate Safety, Health and Environmental Standards in view of ISO/OHSAS based Safety, Health and Environmental Standards. I developed the integration to fit with our specific manufacturing site operations, Corporate Safety standards and ISO/OHSAS requirements. We have done the integration process with minimum help from external parties and without support from a System Integration Consultant. The excitement of getting the project done on time and on budget and receiving the formal accreditation was a highly valued experience on the implementation of SHE.
2011
In 2011, Croda gave me a HR Manager role in addition to my SHE responsibility. This new function related to recruitment, development and talent retention has been a very interesting career development for me. My communication skills developed during my safety, health and environment role was further improved when I became a HR manager. My most challenging task was when we introduced restructuring programmes. It was an exercise that gave me new areas of expertise and skills.
2014
In 2014 another safety specialist skill was added into my scope of work when I was appointed as a Process Safety Leader. In this role, I had the opportunity to further expand my risk assessment capabilities and skills to cover process safety risks. Interactions with Croda’s Hazard Study Leader Academy gave me the opportunities to share knowledge and best practices with specialist experts in Croda.
2015
After 20 years of working in a specialist function as a Process Safety professional, I was appointed to become the Plant Manager in 2015. This new role gave me the opportunity to develop new capabilities and take on more managerial roles and responsibilities, thus making my career more challenging and interesting.
